Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S)

1.) Is door to door soliciting illegal?

No.  We cannot post “No Solicitation” signs for our neighborhood. Community signs are not enforceable. Only the city can enact and enforce laws limiting solicitation. But as a resident, you make the choice of whether to listen or buy from a solicitor.

  • Post a  no soliciting sign on your door
  • Ask to see their permit (if there is a general permit for multiple people they should have a copy of it) They are required to show it if asked.

  • If you have a sign posted and they come to your door, call the number on the permit and complain.

  • If they don’t have a permit (whether or not you have a sign), advise them that they are required to have one. Call the police non emergency number (207-SAPD) and report them.

  • Don’t listen to them or buy their products

2.) How can I start a neighborhood watch on my street?

See our "how to volunteer" page on Citizen Participating Crime Prevention Programs such as Neighborhood Night out and  Cellular on Patrol.

3.) Does my dog need to be on a leash?

Yes! pet owners should also be aware of the City’s leash law, which states that all dogs and cats must be confined to their owner's property at all times except when on a leash.

4.) When can I water my lawn?

That depends.  First check the SAWS website or the San Antonio Express-News to see what level of restrictions we are on. This depends on the level of the Aquifer.  If we are on Year-round restrictions, landscape watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler is permitted any day of the week between the hours of 8 p.m. and 10 a.m.   Hand watering with a hand-held hose, drip irrigation or bucket is permitted any time of day.  If we are on Stage One Restrictions watering with an irrigation system or sprinkler is allowed only once a week before 10 a.m. or after 8 p.m. on your designated watering day as determined by your address.  The SAWS website has a table showing which day you can water according to your home address.

7.)  Do I need to use a Poop scooper when I take my dog for a walk?

Please be aware that you are responsible for picking up the “poop” left by your dog .  Reference City Ordinance 5-24, section G: Poop scoopers required.  An animal owner or keeper shall not walk his/her animals without a leash restraint, and shall not guide or take animals onto the yards or driveways of property not owned, leased or occupied by the animal owner for the purpose of allowing the animal to defecate, but shall keep his/her animal in the public right-of-way, and shall carry a container and scooper for the sanitary removal of his/her animal's fecal matter from the public sidewalk and public right-of-way adjacent to any property with a structure or other improvements thereon.  If you want to report someone who does not pick up after their dog, then you need to be able to identify the person/dog and call 311 to report them.

8.) Do I need to call anyone before I dig in my yard?

It's the law to have utility lines located before you dig or excavate on your property. To avoid personal injury and expensive repairs call the One Call System of Texas at 811 or Dig Test at (800) 344-8377 before you dig. CPS Energy and other local utilities will locate and mark electric, gas, water and other lines on your property. Please allow up to 48 hours for locating before beginning to dig.
