HISTORY OF REDLAND SPRINGS

Redland Springs and the surrounding areas-by Sherri Dugas

In April 1991 there was a small building at the location of 16430 Bulverde Point.  This was the sales office for Redland Springs.  At that time there was only about 3 streets paved-Redland Road, Bulverde Point, Durango Creek and part of Hornet Creek/Carnaby Court.  The rest of the streets on the East side of Redland Road had been cut but were only dirt roads.  The houses on the west side were the first to be built.  There are 232 homes in this subdivision.

Around 1995 Rayco (now known as KB Homes) built some monuments at the front of the subdivision at the corner of Bulverde Road and Redland Road.  The board elected to tear them down and build some nicer ones and add a monument in the median close the school.  Later lights were installed at the monuments using some money from the City of San Antonio.

Bulverde Point was cut through around 1994  and the subdivision called Range Rider was started.  Until about 1994 Redland Springs was not part of the city of San Antonio.  The HOA elected to have lights installed along Redland Road and paid for the electricity costs each month.  After we were annexed , the city assumed responsibility for these costs and streetlights were placed around the neighborhood, streets were repaved and sidewalks extended to Bulverde Road.

The elementary school was built in 1989 and the middle school in 1992.  In 2003 Rayco Ltd deeded two properties to Redlands Springs.  Properties are located at the intersection of Bulverde Rd. and Redland Rd. on the North and South side of Redland Rd.

May 2010 community voted 80-22 to not acquire common fence along Redland Road.  For some history visit Fence webpage <<CLICK>>
