Letter from Neighborhood News Coordinator Jodie

This is a letter provided by Jodie Petry.  Jodie is the last person who sends out the newsletter for our community every other month.  Redland Springs compiles the content and then we send to Jodie.  Jodie mails and has the final edits.  As of March 2010 Redland Springs needs a new point of contact to compile the information.

Sincerely, Roxanne Flick

My name is Jodie Petry, and I work as the Community Liaison for Neighborhood News. We will be working together to produce an exceptional and informative newsletter for your community.

We look forward to working with you on the upcoming issue for the Redland Springs newsletter. The next due date for all articles is April 15th for the May 1st publication. The 15th of the month deadline applies to all future issues of the Redland Springs newsletter with the exception of holidays.

Before the deadline sneaks up on you, and it will, let us assure you that we will be sending a courtesy reminder notice via e-mail ahead of time in order for you to begin preparing articles you will need to submit for the upcoming issue. We do not begin layout of the newsletter until we receive all editorial in its entirety.  We work with one editor to spare confusion, delays, and errors so there should be only one contact person within your staff to forward us all articles.

You can expect to see a proof of your newsletter by e-mail within 2 to 3 days of us receiving all editorial. At that point we ask that you send corrections or changes by e-mail and let us know when we can proceed with production of the newsletter.

We will need the following in order to get started:

·                     Email all articles submissions to Jodie@NeighborhoodNews.com by the deadline.  Articles include ALL TEXT that you want to run in the newsletter, board members, teen services/sitters, meeting minutes, contact information etc. in Word format.  Any photos should be in jpg or tif format.

·                     Redland Springs (updated) resident mailing list.  See most current mailing list in the required U.S. Postal Service format attached to this email.

The proof of the newsletter will be sent via email in Adobe Acrobat for you to review.  We request a timely proofing turnaround to prevent delays in delivery.

Feel free to contact me with any questions via phone, fax or email provided below. We look forward to a longstanding working relationship with you.

Crime-If you would like to view a list of police phone calls for our area go to http://epay.sanantonio.gov/pdwr/?res=1440&ver=true

Our neighborhood is not listed by you need to put in the month and year at the top and then go under "Eden Homeowners Association" .  Then you have to look through all the streets/addresses to find the ones in Redland Springs.   Remember this is just phone calls-it does not mean necessarily that a crime has been committed.

Recent News

Meet and Greet-Thank you to the neighbors who showed up at our Meet and Greet at El Chapparal on September 17, 2009.  Those who attended were Jim and Lorraine Hanna, Theresa Cruz, Sherri and Jack Dugas, Carlos and Velma Williams, Amy Connor and her children and the Flick family.  Five dollar Home Depot gift cards were given out in drawings.    Hopefully we can do another one soon!

Mulch Work- Thank you very mulch for the nice looking mulch work for Spring 2009.  Two hours of work was contributed by Velma Williams, Sherri Dugas, Jack Dugas, Mike Flick, Vic Helbling, Rosie Helbling, Annie Helbling, Mike Nickels, Sylvia Nickels, Ross Lowry, Carrie Cole,  and Theresa Cruz.

Speeding-There has been some concern about speeding on Pecan Gap as you enter the neighborhood , south of Redland.  Some discussion is going on as to whether we need another speed limit sign or speed h umps.  To read more about Speed Humps go to http://www.sanantonio.gov/publicworks/trafeng/speedhumps.asp

General News

Mailbox break-ins  There were reported mail box break ins  on June 2nd, 2008 at the following locations (or closest streets references):  Bulverde and Calico Creek, Pecan Gap/Eagle Canyon, Pecan Gap (north of Driftwood Pass), Bulverde Pt and Old Stable (this was perhaps not on the same day). Channel 3/4 WOAI had a story on mail box break ins on the news as it has been happening in other areas also.    SAFFE officer told us we should really be putting our outgoing mail into a Mail Box at the post office.

SAFFE Officer- our neighborhood SAFFE Officer  is J. Dave McDonald.    SAFFE officers establish and maintain day-to-day interaction with residents and businesses within their assigned beats, in order to prevent crimes before they happen.   If you have a concern or a question about something that is an ongoing problem he is the person to call instead of the non-emergency police number.   He responds very quickly to email at jmcdonald@sanantonio.gov or his cell is 394-0626.  He is a great resource; do not hesitate to ask him any questions.

Update on streets in Redland Springs

As it stands right now, all the streets in Redland Springs are scheduled for a “redo” starting in the fiscal year of 2008.  The fiscal year starts in Oct. 2007.  Arroyo Oak MIGHT get fixed sooner.  The problem with that street involves SAWS and it is quite possible that will be deemed serious enough to repair sooner than Oct. 2007.  -Sherri Dugas

By Laws Update

Several discussions have been had within the HOA Board concerning the fact that our current By Laws specifically state in Article IV, section 2: "The Board of Directors shall consist of three (3) directors, none of whom need be Members."  The past board felt that a member of the board of directors should be a member of the association.  We attempted to amend the By Laws at the annual meeting in May 2007.  However, there was a problem with the wording and notification, so the change was voted down. Well, it turns out that it will NOT be necessary to change the By Laws. Redland Springs has Articles of Incorporation which govern the Association. In this legal document it states under Article VIII (c): "The affairs of the corporation shall be managed by it's board of directors. Such directors need to be members of the association." The By Laws state under Article XII, Section 2: "in the case of any conflict between the Articles of Incorporation and these Bylaws, the Articles shall control.
